The Civil Contingencies Secretariat is committed to working closely with external stakeholders, and being as open as practical about its role and responsibilities. We believe that regular external engagements support our work to improve the UK's preparedness for and response to emergencies. As part of this work, we often have engagements in Parliament, such as statements, debates or parliamentary questions (PQs). CCS staff also attend and speak at a range of events, including conferences, seminars and workshops at local, regional, national and international levels.

- Emergency Planning College - Emergency Planning Training in partnership with the Health Protection Agency (HPA)[External website]. Developed in conjunction with the Health Protection Agency, this immensely popular, cutting edge two-tier training programme aims to equip NHS Emergency Planning Officers with the skills and knowledge to plan for and manage health emergencies. The foundation module gives those with emergency planning responsibilities (as described in the CCA) an overview of the principles of emergency preparedness and their relevance to their organisation. The second tier builds on the foundation course and comprises six further modules.

- 3rd July 2007 - Bruce Mann, Director of Civil Contingencies in the Cabinet Office, and Lindsey Davies, Director of National Influenza Pandemic Planning in the Department of Health, spoke at the Tripartite Annual Business Continuity Conference.
18th-19th June 2007 - The Emergency Planning Society [External website] Annual Conference 2007 was held at the Riviera Conference Centre in Torquay. Speakers included the Rt Hon Tessa Jowell MP, Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport, and Bruce Mann, Director of Civil Contingencies in the Cabinet.

- 19th March 2007 – Bruce Mann, Director of Civil Contingencies in the Cabinet Office, spoke at the Local Authority Chief Executives Resilience Summit in Central London. The event was organised by the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority in partnership with London Councils. It provided an opportunity for Local Authority Chief Executives to discuss the strategic management of civil disasters.

- 5th December 2006 – Peter Tallantire (Deputy Director, Horizon Scanning & Response, CCS) spoke at the BSI launch of the new Business Continuity Management (BCM) Standard, BS 25999. The event was entitled 'Strategic use of the new British Standard on business continuity management to achieve resilience'
- 1st December 2006 – Liz McIntosh, Pandemic Flu Desk Officer in the Civil Contingencies Secretariat, spoke at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office's Security Information for Business Overseas (SISBO) Forum on 'Avian and Human Pandemic Planning'.

- 21st March and 23rd March 2006 - CCS hosted Two Conferences on Evacuation and Shelter in London and Manchester. The programme included speakers from the US talking about their response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
